"Jesus called us to be more than church members; he called us to be disciples."

— Author George Cladis

Discipleship is much more than Sunday school curriculums and educational programming. The terms, "disciple" and "discipleship" have sadly become ambiguous in today's society. We have lost their rich meaning. Basically, a disciple is a lifelong follower and learner of Christ. A disciple: 1) answers the call of Christ (Matthew 4:19), 2) maintains a commitment to Christ (in both following and learning—Matthew 7:24-27), and 3) lives out the commission of Christ (Matthew 28:16-20). Based on Scriptures like the ones above, we can conclude that discipleship has truly taken place when there is a wedding of education and action. In other words, that which we hold formally (by way of education) becomes functional (by way of application).

So, are you willing to take the next step and begin your own discipleship journey? Let me offer you three simple steps to gain some momentum. First of all, take a look at the many different discipleship opportunities offered. Take a look at our website, grab some of the informational brochures that are available through the office or at the Ministry Center, give me (Steve) a call or take some time to read each monthly newsletter that often highlights what’s coming up. Then, after careful consideration and reflection, decide where you fit in best (according to interest, personality, etc.). You may be someone who loves the classroom or you may be a person who is energized by a small group setting. Allow yourself to gravitate toward one of these discipleship opportunities. The next step is simple: Start your discipleship journey! Attend that class that caught your eye. Embrace a Bridge Community as they embrace you (a small group). Pull up a chair at the coffeehouse. Grab some breakfast with the guys. Study with the ladies.

And just watch what God will do! It can get awfully exciting, awfully fast!.
